George Hunka on Howard Barker
Wednesday 7th April 2010
George Hunka’s excellent Superfluities Redux site is buzzing with the news that controversial theatre legend Howard Barker is coming to New York, on a rare visit, for an event organised by theatre minima and called Howard Barker at the Segal Centre on 10 May. This Monday will be Barker Day! The appetising programme includes a screening of Refuse To Dance, a 1988 BBC documentary about the playwright’s early work, plus readings, panel discussions and a public interview conducted by Professor David Ian Rabey, one of the playwright’s most passionate, and critical, interpreters. Barker will also read some of his recent poetry. The event is free (we like that!) and more information about Barker is available on the Martin E Segal Theatre Center website. There’s also a Facebook page.
