Save the V&A Theatre & Performance Department

The UK has a truly amazing theatre and performance heritage. The performing arts objects, archives and library cared for by the Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A) is the largest and most important resource of its kind. It enables scholarship and learning, and gives enjoyment and inspiration to people around the world. Its archives are especially rich and clearly vital to the study of theatre, from medieval times to the present. However, the V&A has decided to close its department of Theatre and Performance as part of a massive programme of cuts. This will have a disproportionate and devastating effect on these collections and on the skilled jobs, employees whose knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm make them accessible. This really is a scandal.
