On Snoopy
Friday 23rd April 2010
Although it’s still a bit unsafe to celebrate the arrival of Spring, I have managed to catch a few moments of reading in the park (in the sun!). My current reading mate is Alexandra Horowitz’s beautiful book, Inside of a Dog: What Dogs See, Smell and Know. Needless to say, Pirate Dog has been very patient with my attempts at understanding him. He doesn’t really mind if I read — just as long as I remember that he likes parks too. Anyway, Horowitz reminds me of Snoopy, and that cartoon dog’s affirmation, more than 50 years ago, that: “Yesterday I was a dog. Today I’m a dog. Tomorrow I’ll probably still be a dog.” It’s that “probably” that’s the giveaway: either Snoopy could read, or his creator has been flicking through the pages of Beckett again…
